This painting was actually created in studio, not in the plein air. But I added it into the Plein Air album because I painted it in the style I developed from painting plein air. I worked directly from a sketch I had created one late summer night in almost complete darkness while by a small fire at my campsite. The only light was that reflecting off of the moon and stars which silhouetted the coulees in a great way for a painting I thought. The two Cottonwood trees in the foreground added to what I was observing and then the land scape had me and I knew I had to paint it!
